Job portal seeks to bond job-seekers, recruiters

Frustrated by the lack of adequate or relevant response to your application for a job? A job portal contends that such frustration will soon be a thing of the past. Roozgaar.com is seeking to "revolutionise" the recruitment landscape in the country by removing barriers between job seekers and .
According to a company official, the job portal, through its innovative services, dramatically increases the response rate of an application. And the services include those of experts who work with applicants to understand their goals and craft resumes that achieve results.
"We help young students, who are on the threshold of getting into the professional world, settle in through induction activities," the Roozgaar.com spokesperson said.
"We also provide a range of essential information through our online learning packages. These cover various topics, including induction and equal opportunities," he added.
The portal not only offers defined categories to search for the right jobs, it also offers advice columns on the latest career opportunities, trending markets, industries and consulting.
Roozgaar offers the facility of either posting your resume on the website or getting the executives mail you the best options for you.
Selecting a top-quality service can be the key to a job-seeker's success. The professional resume-writing industry has evolved considerably over the past 25 years, and the most dramatic changes have occurred throughout the last decade as more and more individuals utilise the internet as part of their job search, the company said.
Roozgaar.com offers a unique feature that allows you to calculate the salary an employer can pay -- or should pay -- given your experience or qualification.
"Thousands of recruiters have been registered under Roozgaar, who post their latest requirements online, which one can directly apply to, simply by creating an account," the company spokesperson said in a statement.
The portal has tie-ups with most leading companies. As a major online employment solution firm for people seeking jobs and employers in need of a talent pool, it has gradually expanded to a offer a full array of job-related services -- from opportunities to career management.
The spokesperson pointed out that often a perfectly qualified and skilled candidate is not considered for a job because of the lack of a good curriculum vitae (CV) and interview techniques.
"If your CV doesn't accurately reflect your skills, abilities and personality, or if you are unsure how to persuade an interviewer that you are the best person for the job, how can you make the most of your potential?" he said.
"That is exactly where we step in and ensure all lose ends are tied up."

Roozgaar.com announced some tips for the betterment of your professional life: Raising your bliss remainder at work!

Being smiling face at office or workplace happiness is really hard to define! Work has always been a reason of constant irritation and stress for many. Beautiful days seem shady, your tea starts tasting bitter and the soothing voices of your co-workers or colleagues do little to quell the looming twitch in your eyes. You’re panicked, yet reconciled, as you take that last sighing breath before opening the door. You’re at work and you’re miserable! Is there something as a dream job?? Well…There is nothing such as a dream job. The newness and excitement of that once-perfect opportunity tends to wear off after a year, as you become focused on the more important aspects of your tasks, colleagues and boss.

Companies often employ management consultants to discover ways to improve efficiency at work and to foster healthy working environment. They mainly emphasize on processes and procedures. But, there is actually an even more important ingredient for improvement of the workplace productivity: And that is ‘Happiness’! It about loves what you do and this is how one can actually instill productivity in assigned tasks.  Knowing that what you do is important and being acknowledged for it and being constantly energized. That’s because when employees are happy and motivated, the business benefits more efficiently, because happy people accomplish better results with higher quality, and are less vulnerable to stress.

It sounds like some kind of Nirvana, doesn’t it? After all, who doesn’t fancy being happy? But how can you be happy at work even in the face of adversities? And how can you not look at what’s wrong with your job and instead focus on what’s good about it?

Let’s have a look at few easy ways spotted by Roozgaar team to make it possible:

Take a control:

Negativity is agony inside the dying head or is an infectious misery that drains you of energy and saps your excitement. Understand that your happiness is your responsibility. And shifting negative thoughts to positive ones can actually perk up your mood and way of thinking. It is scientifically proved that one positive thought is much more powerful the thousand negative thoughts. Start by making a list of all that’s great about your job, including the fact you have one. Don’t reflect on it. Just feel the gratitude, let it well up and spill over you. This will require constant practice but you can eventually get there. Now from here on, starts dealing with the problems you are facing. They will not only seem less dreadful but you’ll also able to resolve your sticky situations more easily.

Set your goals:

One has to clear with what he/she want. There is nothing more infuriating than working arbitrarily without having a clear understanding of your career path and goals. Without knowing how your work impacts the bigger picture you might as well end up spending a lot of time on urgent but trivial issues rather than tasks that could certainly impact the bigger picture. So clarify in clear certain terms your vision and objectives and focus on whether you are headed to. It is amazing how much you can accomplish once you have perfected your precise goals and the level of contentment you will feel once you have reached your desired destination.
Take a challenge:
Change is the only thing which is constant, otherwise things will get obsolete. Monotony is one of the biggest hurdles to career fulfillment. After a year or so, doing the same thing at work, you might get stuck in a rut. So to get back some of that “new job” enthusiasm challenge you and start doing things a bit differently. Make an effort to learn something new and volunteer for projects that’s outside your comfort zone. Push your limits and get your adrenaline pumping; it may open doors to some unexpected opportunities.
Balanced work life:
It takes a minute to lose but takes months or years to built. It is very easy to lose yourself to work and overlook what awaits you outside the work arena. Maintaining great work/life equilibrium is vital for both your enthusiasm level and general well-being. So take out time for things you love doing outside your work- whether it’s spending time with family or connecting with friends, or simple pleasures like exercising, shopping, reading or other activities and hobbies that channel your energy and creativity. Having something to look forward to after work will not only see you through moments of drudgery at work but will also keep your energy levels and enthusiasm pretty high?
Avoid constant stimulation:

We live in a world of endless stimulation. Sometimes, this creates monotony and restlessness when we run out of things to do. So if you seek happiness, try overcoming this addiction! Develop the capability to enjoy life in its totality – even when the stimulation stops. Appreciate the small things life has to offer and cherish moments you spend with your near and dear ones.
And while happiness alone might not increase work productivity, it’s a pretty solid start.

“For many people a job is more than an income – it's an important part of who we are.
So a career transition of any sort is one of the most unsettling experiences you can face in your life”.

Companies look to hire experienced talent

MUMBAI: Cutting back on hiring entry- and junior-level staff, Indian companies are increasingly looking to hire experienced professionals who would hit the ground running from day one, says a report by a recruitment firm shared exclusively with TOI. Overall, it found an improvement in business sentiment, predicting that net business outlook will improve by 3% in the next six months.

The half-yearly report forecasting hiring trends from October 2013 to March 2014 said engineering as a function remains in demand, especially for the talent coming from tier II and tier III cities like Allahabad, Bareilly, Ludhiana, Ranchi and Warangal. Businesses which are sensitive to the political-economic fallout of the impending general elections are the ones that are most likely to go slow on hiring. The bright spots on the jobs chart are the consumer goods, retail, pharma and healthcare sectors, which are expected to register increased hiring over the next six months.

"The FMCG industry is not witnessing any slowdown in hiring. Despite the tough macro-economic conditions, we are among the few sectors that have been reporting good growth quarter-on-quarter. So, hiring continues at our organization. As we expand our rural footprint, we are constantly adding numbers in the rural markets," said HR V Krishnan, executive VP at Dabur. The maker of Vatika hair oil and Real juices added around 1,000 employees for its rural expansion over the past one year.

Dream job in Lucknow

On a warm September afternoon, a group of girls huddled round a table in an open air eatery.
Between coffee sips, Christopher Turillo, 34, a trainer from the United States, taught them how to make a bridge using newspapers, strong enough to support bricks.
Ordinarily, this leadership and team-building exercise can be seen in any skill development institute.
Print
But here, a special classroom was at work at the canteen of Avadh Girls’ Degree College (AGDC) on Vikramaditya Marg.
Christopher, an MBA and MA from the US and his friend Byomkesh Mishra, a former bank employee have been working on improving the employability skills among graduation students of this college for a year now.
The idea is to promote job-readiness among them, particularly for those coming from non-privileged backgrounds.
The exercise is part of the project ‘Medha’ which is an Indian-American social setup based in Lucknow.
It is a partner of the National Skills Development Cor poration (NSDC).
Basically, it aims to bridge the gap between the skills demanded by industry and those imparted by the education system.
“It is based entirely on experiential and activity learning techniques and includes a onemonth internship component. Its curriculum has been developed in conjunction with leading employers and is tailored to meet their needs across sectors and industries,” said Christopher.
Currently, the programme is underway in Maharaja Bijli Pasi Government Degree College, apart from AGDC.
The graduation students of this prestigious government-aided college always get involved in extracurricular activities, but here the one-month programme is not just a fun way to spend an afternoon.
It’s a crucial source of skills which the students say, could be their ticket to a dream job after graduation or a higher degree.
Priyanka, a final year arts student who is part of the programme, was always oriented towards a government job.
“I originally got involved because I thought it would be fun, but being part of it has given me so much,” she says. “I’m more confident now and do not mind doing a private job.”
The training that includes on campus classes and outstation tours to high-end hotels and showrooms in Lucknow is the buzzword, both at AGDC and Bijli Pasi College in Aashiana.
Christopher admits that more efforts are needed to train students in the Aashiana college as most of them come from comparatively humble backgrounds.
Tackling the general inclination towards hard-to-get government jobs, students work on ways to boost their chances of finding employment in the private sector.
Toward this end, the programme offers an employability education programme to students studying in public sector colleges, provided on-campus and at a subsidised fee.
“We believe that employability as a process should be incorporated into the education system itself, reducing the need for students to go beyond the gates of their institution to acquire the skills required for gainful employment,” said Christopher, who is an MBA from University of Chicago and MA (International Relations) from John Hopkins University in the US.
Depending on the response, the duo would replicate the programme in other colleges of the city.

Indian Employers

MUMBAI: Finally, some good news for job seekers in a down-in-the-dumps market. The latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey of 5059 employers across India released today by the ManpowerGroup reveals that Indian employers report positive hiring plans for Quarter 4, 2013.
According to the survey findings, Indian employers expect the hiring pace for the upcoming quarter to rebound from both last quarter and a year ago at this time in all industry sectors and regions.

Once the data is adjusted to allow for seasonal variation, employers report an outlook of +41% indicating a vigorous hiring pace in the months ahead. Quarter-over-quarter, employers report stronger hiring prospects in all four regions with an outlook improvement of 14 percentage points when compared with the previous quarter.
Year-over-year, the outlook is 22 percentage points stronger. India’s fourth-quarter hiring plans are the most optimistic across the globe, and represent a significant turnaround in employer confidence following four consecutive quarters of relatively lacklustre forecasts.
“Employers expect robust hiring plans in all seven industry sectors and all four regions during Quarter 4. In the coming quarter, the situation looks more promising with the recovery made by IT firms and allied companies. There is a big opportunity for the e-commerce sectors to add more jobs to the labour market,” said AG Rao, group managing director of ManpowerGroup India in a release.
The most optimistic hiring plans are reported by employers in the wholesale & retail trade sector and the services sector, where net employment outlooks stand at +46% and +45%, respectively. Employers in the northern region are most optimistic, where the net employment outlook stands at +52%.
Positive hiring intentions are reported by mining & construction sector employers with an outlook of +43% and in both the finance, insurance & real estate sector and the manufacturing sector where employers report outlooks of +42%. On the regional front, employers in the South report an outlook of +44%, while the West and the East have outlooks of +36% and +33% respectively.
Outlook for the North improves by 31 percentage points and an increase of 20 percentage points is reported in the West. Hiring plans strengthen by 14 and 9 percentage points in the South and the East, respectively. Hiring intentions also improve in all four regions when compared with 4Q 2012.
Outlook increases of 27 percentage points are reported in both the North and the East. Hiring prospects are 26 percentage points stronger in the South and improve by 13 percentage points in the West. Globally, labour market conditions are expected to remain mostly positive with employers in 29 of the 42 countries and territories reporting that they plan to boost payrolls by varying degrees during the fourth quarter.

Roozgaar Tips: Striking a Work- Life Balance!

Roozgaar Tips: Striking a Work- Life Balance!

There was a time when the boundaries between our work life and personal life were fairly transparent. These days, however, work has invaded our personal space and sustaining a work-life balance has become a tough task. For a lot of people, trying to juggle between the demands of a career and a personal life has become an on-going challenge, particularly at a time when companies are expecting more from the survivors.

Accomplishing the elusive “work-life balance” can often feel like a far-fetched objective, especially for people who try to give their 100% to everything. So in today’s “do more with less” competitive reality, how can you keep your work from consuming your entire life? And how can you manage your family and career and feel gratified with both?

Let’s take a look at what all you can do to strike that perfect balance:

Do what you love to do:
The silhouette of your work holds the most significant limelight when it comes to maintaining the equilibrium. If you do what you love, then creating that balance becomes way easier. So do what interests you and triggers you intellectually! Something which makes you happy even after a gruelling day of work. Every job comes with its set of problems, deadlines and typical confusions. But if you love what you do, all these negativities can look like the positive facets of the bigger picture.

Don’t be married to your work:

It can be appealing to increase the hours at your work, especially if you’re trying to manage an increasing workload or looking forward to earning a promotion or simply keeping your head above the water. Sometimes, stretching at work is necessary. But if you’re working for a large chunk of your time, your personal life is sure to take a thump. You are sure to experience fatigue and be constantly tired. You might even miss out on significant occasions or milestones and end up harming your relationship with your near and dear ones. So how do you handle this situation? Well… the trick is to draw a thin line between your personal and professional life and never let the two overlap. Remember- name, fame, money and your job are all transitory. The only constant in your life is your family and friends. So cherish their presence and give them your time, attention and love.
Have the right attitude:
It’s all about having the right perspective! Sometimes, just a slight change in the way you see things can make a hell lot of a difference. So set your priorities right and aim for contentment rather than just filling your bank account with useless currency. Enjoy what life has to offer! Plan a holiday to some exotic location or go for a football game with your kids or simply give a surprise gift to your spouse. Schedule time for people, activities and events that matter to you and give your 100% to your work during your office time.
Track your time:
Pay attention to your everyday tasks, be it work-related or your personal activities. Decide what is essential and cut or delegate activities which you think you cannot handle or do not enjoy. Do what is required and let go of the rest. It’s great to have a solid support system both at work and family. Enlist reliable loved ones and friends to pitch in when working overtime or travelling.
Learn to disconnect:
With technology being able to connect anyone at any time from practically anywhere in the world, there seems to be no boundary between work life and home — unless you wish to create it deliberately. So make a conscious effort to separate work from your personal time. Leave work back in the office when with your family. A lot of time saying no at work also helps! When you quit accepting responsibilities out of guilt or a wrong sense of obligation, you’ll surely have more time to finish work that is more important.
Striking a healthy work-life balance isn’t a one-shot deal. It is a constant progression as your family, work life and interests change. Just look over your priorities periodically and make changes if required to make certain that you’re on track.

Roozgaar Tips: Overcoming Pre-Interview Jitters!

Overcoming Pre-Interview Jitters!

Overcoming Pre-Interview JittersJob interviews can be pretty nerve-racking causing us to lose our train of thought and not “perform” to the standards that we would ideally have liked to. You might feel uncomfortable “selling” yourself or fielding unforeseen questions, or the prospect of meeting and impressing new people can cause you anxiety. From sweaty palms, to dryness in the mouth or nausea, you can experience all kinds of symptoms. The comforting part however is that you are not alone! Almost all jobseekers find interviews stressful. But the trick is to appear as normal as possible and get through the ordeal successfully. The art is controlling your stress and appearing as likable even in the face of adversity!
During interviews, most jobseekers become so nervous that they either get tongue-tied or blabber too much. While few people welcome stress, the reality is that a manageable level of anxiety can actually perk up your performance. It can quicken your mind, sharpen your conversation and pump more adrenaline into your system. But if your blood pressure rises too much and your palms get sweaty, it’s time to control your reactions!

So here are some simple techniques that can relax you and help you through your interview woes:

Stay calm and relaxed:

The self-imposed stress of trying to ace an interview can make you focus too much on how you look and act. Even preparing your responses well in advance can hurt if you’re too nervous. It can choke your spontaneity and your capability to field the unforeseen questions. So, remind yourself that whatever happens, you’ll live to survive another day! And the less you fret about making slip-ups, the less anxious you will be.

Sleep well and plan ahead:

It’s great to plan ahead in order to do away with any kind of stress. This means sleeping early the night before your interview and reaching the venue a little before the scheduled time. Rushing, getting lost or the dread of being late can all provoke anxiety and set the panic button on. So print out the directions of the desired location and try to arrive 30 minutes early. Listen to some calming music on the way to unwind and relax a bit.
Know your etiquette:
What do you do when you feel stressed? Do you chew your nails, grind your teeth or twirl your hair? Right down each gesture and try solving these issues prior to the interview. For instance; if you bite your nails then clip them to avoid any distraction. Your body language also has a very important role to play here. It can say more than your words and can easily reveal that you are stressed and fidgety. So after talking to your recruiter for some time, try to lean forward in your chair. This will reveal that you’re engaged and listening. Also, smile while you talk as it releases tension in your muscles and transforms your perspective into a more positive one. It also makes you feel and look more confident. Plus, a returned smile also eases anxiousness.
Research well:
Stress is caused partly by uncertainty! So the more you lessen the uncertainty, the lesser stress you are likely to feel. Research your prospective employer well and prepare answers to the regular questions. Every bit of groundwork will help you relax and make you feel more confident. Gather as much information as possible to gain a sense of control. Research about the industry and job extensively so that you have a thorough knowledge of what your interviewer is looking for and what it is about your silhouette that can be remarkably significant to the job in question and can directly impact the bottom line.

Take your time and don’t succumb to pressure:

You might be interviewed by somebody who grills you to see how you tackle stress. If you find yourself in a similar situation, don’t let the interviewer ruffle your feathers. Know that the other people were treated the same way and that it’s not an indication of your capabilities or you.
There are numerous ways to reduce stress and ease your nerves before an interview. Just figure out what works best for you. Remember that you have to believe in yourself in order for anyone else to think it’s worth believing in you. Being well-prepared is a great antidote to stress. Lowering the stakes can also reduce your stress level significantly.

Roozgaar Tips: Set yourself apart with a Visual Resume!

Roozgaar Tips: Set yourself apart with a Visual Resume!

Did you know that hiring managers spend an average of about 30 seconds on your resume? That’s hardly any time to read through all your job titles, let alone your experience or achievements! So if you have such little time to make an impression to warrant a second look, how do you create a resume that’s unique? And something that sets you apart and highlights your skills and accomplishments in an effective way.

If you’re trying to come up with ideas on something totally different for your resume then Visual Resume is here for you. The good news is that it can direct your recruiter’s eye to the most striking parts of your resume and make a quick but significant impact.

The rise of Infographics:

Depicting information through visuals and graphics besides text is not just a growing trend among job seekers looking to represent a huge amount of data in a more memorable and tangible way . It’s an effort to show recruiters that one can think out of the box. Infographic resumes’ can do to a traditional CV, what Power Point does to a word doc.

Benefits of a Visual resume:

With a lagging economy and high unemployment rates, the job market is getting tougher by the day. There are more contenders but lesser jobs! And even when the economy is great, the best jobs have a lot of competition. Envision yourself as someone accountable for hiring. You have piles of simple, boring looking resumes sitting right in front of you or in your inbox. Some of them have some bolder colours, but in majority, all of them look the same. Then suddenly, a resume that’s bursting with creativity, manages to catch your attention. It’s unique and showcases the skills and achievements of the candidate in a creative way. That’s Visual resume for you! The bottom line – a Visual CV won’t essentially land you your dream job but it will surely get your foot into the door.

Here’s why you’ll love it:

• You can use visuals and graphics that showcase your achievements and skills and differentiate you from the crowd.
• You can highlight things you think are the most significant. Maybe you want to put your remarkable skills first and experience last if you are a fresher.
• Visuals and images tend to resonate better because they are easier to read and remember than text.
• You can include links of professional networking sites where you would like to connect with employers. This is your opportunity to direct where they go next and what they see about you.
But remember: Resumes are content and not design-driven! Even if you go the creative route, the content still counts. Deciding between a traditional or visual CV actually depends on your industry and profession. Just throwing images on paper will do little to set your resume apart. There has to be some thought behind the message you want to send across. So design a resume that satisfies both the content and presentation part.
